If God answers our prayers
The door bell rang as I was getting ready for office. There was a nice looking young man with a pre-sanctified smile, expecting me to usher him into the apartment. “My name is Krishna,” he announced unasked, replying to my curious gesture.
Come on in, was the only possible response, looking at the genial person standing at the door. Krishna made himself comfortable; the smile seemed plastered. He sensed my discomfiture and explained why he was inside.
“You called me, wanted me to be with you,” he announced.
I could not recall any such invitation. Maybe he was mistaken.
“I called you? I wanted you to be with me??” I queried with much surprise…”are you sure? Please check, may be you got the wrong number.”
“No, no.. I am sure. I don’t make mistakes”. He was adamant.
I scratched my head in disbelief.. why would I have someone to come over, without specifying a date, or time or a purpose.. and .. to be with me… that is preposterous, I wondered.
In good humour, to make light of the situation, I said, “well, yes, I did call one Krishna.. but that Krishna was the Lord Himself.. so don’t tell me you are Lord Krishna.. ha ha…”
Krishna got up as if to go.. at the door, he said, “well, it looks like you do not need me. I am Lord Krishna, if you can believe that your prayer has been answered.. and I am here to be with you, for as long as you need me.”
“Oh, come on.. enough is enough.. jokes apart, do tell me, what do you want.” I was getting upset and looked at the watch impatiently.
“You called me, you wanted me to be with you. So here I am, to be with you. Only you shall see me. I shall be invisible to all others. I shall reside within you. I shall be just there, watching over you. You can simply lead your life, with me in your mind, as before. Now you decide, you want me or not? If you do not need me, I shall go and find another who is calling me. There are many calls waiting, you know.”
Now this is not something I bargained for.
Should I ask him to prove himself that he is indeed Lord Krishna?
What if he was indeed the Lord?
If He is to be with me, overlooking my every action, would I have to be careful that every action is right and would meet with His approval?
Would He approve me of telling some harmless white lies? or what if I have to tell a lie in business or some situation?
How can I lead a life knowing there is some invisible ‘eye’ prying on me all the time.
Questions flooded my mind… and I rasied myself from this deluge to ask Krishna.. “wait.. would it mean, you will protect me from all dangers? Would you ensure that all the decisions I take in my personal & business life are proved correct and beneficial to my family and company?”
With the same plastered smile, Krishna said, “I can see that you are confused and not sure, if you want your prayer answered. I can see that you have a difficulty with me to be with you. I shall take my leave and go to another more sincere caller, so I can find an abode where I am needed without any expectations.”
The door slammed shut, leaving me more confused than ever. Did I goof up a golden chance to be with the Lord? Did I miss what million others are yearning for? Am I such an imbecile fool, not to have recognised this one-in-a-million offer?
I had two options. One - forget that this ever happened.. intensify my prayer and hope I get this chance once again. Two – just imagine, Lord has not left me.. and He has decided to reside within me.
I felt comfortable with the option two.. I could smile and felt a surge of new strength overpowering me to face Life. Come on, I am ready to face what life has to offer.. with God within me, I thought.
I was late to the office. I had to hurry. The door bell rang. I was impatient. Who could this be now? I opened the door, to find Krishna there, with the same prim pre-sanctified smile… bemoaning, as if He had something to say.
“You are right. I hear everyone praying .. but no one wants me to be with them…and those who do, want me to fulfil all their wants.”
I replied, “Lord, I believe you did appear before me, answering my prayers… what difference would it make, if you are within me or outside of me? I realise that there is no difference .. I only know you are there and it is my duty to please you. You may please leave me and find someone else who needs you more than me.”
Krishna gave me a knowing smile…and before my very eyes, He vanished into thin air.. and then I knew, I was blessed. I looked at myself and saw, my Conscience looking at me with that same prim pre-sanctified smile..!!
On my way to office, something strange happened. Whomsoever I looked at, each and every person seems to have within them, the very similar Conscience as the one I am having.. !!
